Our Services
General Dentistry
Your initial appointment will consist of a comprehensive oral and dental exam, which includes digital radiographs, photographs, and intraoral scans as necessary. Your appointment also includes an overview of your general oral health, assessment of tooth decay, and evaluation of gum disease. Our team takes time to review your dental health as well as address any concerns and questions you may have about your teeth and gums. Once a diagnosis is reached, you will be presented with recommended treatment options. Sometimes it is possible to start your treatment within your initial visit.
If you have had X-rays taken within 6 months of your initial visit with Dearfield Family Dentistry, please request your previous Dentist to forward your X-rays to our office. If this is not possible, we'd be happy to take a new set of X-rays for our records.
In terms of the cleaning, the professional ultrasonic or hand scaling (cleaning) involves the removal of calculus (tartar), and plaque, and includes teeth polishing, as well as the review of home care tips and tricks.
Please inform our staff at your first visit if you have any serious medical conditions, allergies involving latex or other materials, and/or if you are taking anticoagulants or bisphosphonates. Please do not hesitate to also let us know if you have been asked by your physician to premedicate before any dental procedures.
A parent or guardian must accompany all patients under 18 at the consultation visit.
Cosmetic Dentistry
Cosmetic (white) Fillings: White (composite) fillings are an alternative to traditional silver (amalgam) and gold fillings. White fillings are made of a strong composite resin that is matched to the surrounding tooth color. With advances in dentistry, the fillings are more durable and bond to the tooth, rather than taking support from the tooth. The materials have a high filler content, making them resistant to wear from chewing pressure.
Cosmetically, there are over 20 shades available to accurately match the fillings to the unique characterization of most teeth.
Patients prefer white fillings due to the ease of placement (same visit), instant results, and relief from sensitivity from hot or cold, which is traditionally a problem with metal fillings.
We use BPA-free materials and run an “amalgam-free office.” All restorations are placed with adequate desensitizing agents to minimize post-filling sensitivity. We use a combination of barriers and high vacuum suctions to virtually eliminate any mercury contamination during the removal or replacement of old fillings.
Veneers: Porcelain veneers are ultra-thin shells of ceramic material, which are bonded to the front surfaces of teeth. This procedure requires little or no anesthesia and can be the ideal choice for improving the appearance of the front teeth. Porcelain veneers are placed to mask discolorations, to brighten teeth, or to improve a smile. Highly resistant to permanent staining from coffee, tea, wine, or even cigarette smoking, the wafer-thin porcelain veneers can achieve a tenacious bond to the tooth, resulting in an aesthetically pleasing naturalness that is unsurpassed by other restorative options.
Teeth Whitening: We use the most advanced techniques available to brighten your smile. Our office is equipped with professional teeth whitening methods like ZOOM!® and KOR® to provide dramatic results that still appear natural. We provide in-office procedures, take-home trays, or a combination approach. Our teeth whitening can help you clear away years of stains and discoloration for a more brilliant smile.
Cosmetic Bondings: Small imperfections can be corrected in your smile using a customized approach by bonding material to minor chips and imperfections to yield a natural finish. Our team can consult with you to make sure you receive the treatment that best suits your needs.
Preventative Dentistry
Maintaining the health of your natural dentition is always our top priority. Our team will consult with you on ways to improve your oral hygiene and maintain an oral environment that promotes overall health and well-being.
Dental Sealants: Sealants are thin, resin coatings applied to the chewing surface of molars, premolars, and any deep grooves (called pits and fissures) of teeth. Deep grooves are inaccessible to the toothbrush or floss. More than 75% of dental decay begins in these deep grooves. We use BPA-free resin sealants to fortify these grooves, creating a smooth, easy-to-clean surface. Sealants are safe for all ages. They are most effective in patients with a “sweet tooth” and enjoy eating sticky foods or candy. Most insurances cover sealants in children and are a fraction of the cost of fillings in adults. The procedure is absolutely painless and generally done in 10 minutes or less per tooth.
Silver Diamine Fluoride: Silver diamine fluoride (SDF) is a liquid that contains silver, diamine, and fluoride. It is used as a treatment for tooth sensitivity, cavities, and tooth decay. SDF can be applied to the surface of a tooth to prevent further decay and to help alleviate sensitivity. The fluoride in SDF helps to strengthen tooth enamel, while the silver component helps kill bacteria and inhibit the growth of new bacteria. It is a non-invasive treatment compared to traditional drill and fill cavities.
Laser Desensitization: Laser desensitization of teeth is a procedure that uses a laser to reduce or eliminate tooth sensitivity. Tooth sensitivity is caused by exposed dentin, which is the layer of tooth material under the enamel. When the enamel is worn away or damaged, the sensitive nerves in the dentin can cause pain or discomfort when exposed to hot and cold temperatures, sweets, and/or acidic foods.
During laser desensitization, a dental professional will use a specialized laser to deliver energy to the affected tooth or teeth, sealing the exposed dentin and reducing the sensation of pain. The procedure can be quick, usually taking just a few minutes per tooth, and is typically pain-free or with minimal discomfort. The laser energy actually cauterizes the nerve tissue, which stops the transmission of the sensitive signals to the brain, making the tooth less sensitive.
Fluoride Treatments: There are two common types of professionally applied fluorides. Acidulated phosphate fluoride (APF) is acidic; neutral sodium fluoride is not. They can be delivered as rinses, gels, or varnishes. We believe that the benefits of fluoride should be the standard of care. The team at Dearfield Family Dentistry offers fluoride treatment after cleanings to all patients irrespective of insurance coverage.
Fluoride is applied as a varnish during a dental appointment. The teeth are dried so the fluoride doesn’t become diluted. Fluoride varnish can be painted directly on parts of the teeth that are most likely to get a cavity, to strengthen them. This is an advantage of varnish over gel or foam. Varnish also contains a very strong concentration of fluoride. Topical fluoride comes in a variety of flavors, but it should never be swallowed.
Enamel is the outer layer of the crown of a tooth (the visible part). It is made of closely packed mineral crystals. Every day, the enamel loses and gains minerals. The loss of minerals is called demineralization. Gaining new minerals is called remineralization. These two processes balance each other.
Demineralization begins with the type of bacteria that causes plaque on your teeth. These bacteria feed on sugar in your mouth and produce acids. The acids dissolve the crystals in your teeth. Remineralization builds the enamel back up. In this process, minerals such as fluoride, calcium, and phosphate are deposited inside the enamel. Too much loss of minerals without enough repair of the enamel leads to tooth decay.
Dental Implants
Dental implants are small anchors made of a biocompatible metal called titanium that are placed in the jawbone. Dental implants are the replacement of tooth roots in the mouth. Once placed, the anchors begin to fuse with the bone over the course of a few months. After the fusing process, known as osseointegration, abutment posts are inserted into the anchors to allow for the permanent attachment of the replacement teeth.

Digital X-rays: At Dearfield Family Dentistry, we are equipped with digital X-ray equipment. This uses technology that is similar to what is found in a digital camera. The image is captured by the digital X-ray and is stored on our computer and can be viewed instantly, enlarged, and have filters applied to them in order for a Dentist or Dental Hygienist to detect issues. Digital X-rays eliminate operating errors and reduce the duration of the previously time-consuming process of developing and fixing films. Our digital X-rays are environmentally friendly as it does not use any chemicals. More importantly, digital X-rays reduce the required radiation by 80-90% compared to the already low exposure of traditional dental X-rays. The team at Dearfield Family Dentistry uses all digital equipment, including digital sensors and panoramic digital radiographs to diagnose oral conditions. The panoramic digital X-ray helps identify problems found in the temporomandibular joint or TMJ, problems with impacted wisdom teeth, and issues that may be associated with surrounding structures. Panoramic X-rays are easier on children as no film is introduced in the mouth, and help evaluate eruption patterns of permanent teeth. Intraoral digital X-rays help accurately diagnose very small problems that may be missed otherwise.
***Dearfield Family Dentistry has a routine diagnostic radiograph policy based on the guidelines set forth by the American Dental Association; a full mouth series every 3 to 5 years, 4 bitewings, and 3 periapical radiographs once a year. These X-rays are necessary for providing appropriate clinical diagnosis and treatment, identifying possible decay (cavities), infection, fractured teeth, bone loss due to gum disease, and pathology. Without periodic radiographs, we cannot identify and disclose any potential problems, which could lead to serious jaw infections, tooth loss, and bone destruction leading to potential jaw fractures. There are no other alternatives to dental radiographs at this time.
Radiation doses from dental radiographs are minimal and all necessary precautions are taken. Dearfield Family Dentistry is equipped with state-of-the-art digital imaging radiographs with minimal exposure, and we use appropriate measures such as lead apron, and collar, to ensure exposure is reduced.
Implant Retained Dentures/Hybrid Dentures
The All-on-4® treatment concept is a unique implant solution that allows patients who are missing all of their upper or lower teeth to replace a full arch of teeth using only 4 implants as “anchors”.
This technique offers many advantages over traditional dentures.
The treatment concept can simulate the look and feel of natural teeth and stay fixed in place with the implants acting as anchors. Patients will not experience the typical rocking and movement or gum irritation associated with dentures.
With the All-on-4® treatment concept, there is no plate covering the roof of the mouth, so speaking and eating are more natural and comfortable than with a traditional denture.
Laser Dentistry
Dental lasers have revolutionized dentistry with treatments that are faster, more effective, and more satisfying to patients. Dearfield Family Dentistry is equipped with Diode, Nd:YAG, and erbium lasers in order to painlessly treat an array of procedures from tooth sensitivity, gum surgeries, pain management, root canals, and beyond.
Invisalign
Invisalign takes a modern approach to straightening teeth using a custom-made series of aligners that are made of smooth, comfortable, and virtually invisible plastic that will gradually and gently shift your teeth into place. The measurements are taken digitally with our iTero scanner followed by custom treatment to correct and align your teeth in order to achieve an aesthetic and functional result.
